Finally you decide to rest for a bit and you lay your paddle across your kayak while you grab a bit of a stretch. Then just as you do so a power boat whips by you, creates a great wave and oops! There goes your paddle over the side of your kayak. You watch in horror as your paddle slips away from your grasp, you now envision yourself with two need paddles which are unfortunately your hands. You study them carefully wishing at this moment they were a bit bigger.
This is a scenario that nobody every wants to find themselves in. Although we have added a touch of sad humor here it can actually create a very unsafe situation. The chances of you being able to paddle yourself back are remote, just as a result of the sheer exhaustion itself. You could find yourself stranded for hours until someone comes to rescue you.
You can save yourself from all of this grief by carrying a spare. You can purchase a back up paddle
Happy kayaking
This paddle is fine if your plan is go paddle around the lake (fresh water only, beyond that it feels cheap and handles cheaply. The connecting point on mine began to corrode after taking it out once into a salt water bay and rinsing it thoroughly with fresh water. I took it out again figuring I could sand and paint over the corrosion if it proved to be good in the surf. It soon failed me as it bent on a bailout without even getting stuck in the sand. Save your money.
